We are going to design an
amphitheatre stage!
Imagine a space located beside
HBP studio which is 40mx50m, we have to design a
4.0m (width) x 6.0m (length) x 5.0m (height) amphitheatre stage with at least 100 audience
seatings.
PROPOSED SITE FOR ‘AMPHITHEATRE STAGE’
PROPOSED
SITE (CONTOUR PLAN) FOR ‘AMPHITHEATRE STAGE’
The stage is needed to have roof and use timber as main material.
We are divided into 16-people
groups.
All the group members are
representing different courses in HBP, symbolises the real construction and
design team in construction industry.
This is a BIG BIG BIG project!
Site analysis, architectural and
interior design, structure and material selection, simple costing, project
management and construction technique are to be done in this project.
It is like we are going to be a
real working team and compete for a tender.
Exciteness, worries and a lot of question marks
filled up my mind.
Some introduction about an
amphitheathre:
An open-air venue used for
entertainment, performances and sports.
There are a few types of
amphitheatre which are Roman amphitheatres, contemporary amphitheatres and
natural amphitheatres.
After some brain-storming and
discussion among the group members, finally we come out with these:
Group
name: Galaxy 11
The group is named after Galaxy
11 because it consists all the fields related to construction industry which
are architect, interior designer, quantity surveyor, building surveyor, region
and town planner, construction manager and build technology.
The number '11' is the number of
group given for the project.
The logo tagline: 'Always Be A
Pioneer' brings out the group's ambition to be the one who leads in the
industry.
My proposed design for the stage.
Design concept: wave, indicates energy, unrestrained, freely.
Since the amphitheatre stage is located in open space, i hope people will feel free and enjoy the performance.
However, the group decided to choose the design proposed by Lee Kang, an architectural student in the group.
Mockup for the proposed design
We named our amphitheatre stage
as 'The Enfold' which is inspired by the artist Kate Browne's cocoon project.
A cocoon is a casing spun of silk by many moth caterpillars and numerous other holometabolous insect larva as a protective covering covering for the pupa.
A cocoon is a casing spun of silk by many moth caterpillars and numerous other holometabolous insect larva as a protective covering covering for the pupa.
Cocoon holds the
past, present, future and symbolises change(evolution).
'The Enfold' represents the
process of an event to be held at the amphitheathre.
The past is the process during
the preparation for the event: decoration, arrangement, practices.
The present is when the event is
being carried out.
The future is the audiences'
memories and these will bring them coming back for more events.
When the design is decided, we start to work on our presentation drawing and project report.
